NEWLANDS RECLAMATION PROJECT

MOBILE MUSEUM MOVES TOWARD COMPLETION

The Newlands Reclamation Project Mobile Museum, a project started during the Centennial Celebration of the Newlands Project, is moving toward completion.

The Mobile Museum, whose development is coordinated by Lahontan Valley Environmental Alliance, will be a lasting reminder of Newlands Reclamation Project’s 100 years of making the desert bloom.  It will also be an outstanding tool to educate the public as to the importance of water and agriculture in northern Nevada.

Due to the efforts of Churchill County Museum’s Director, Jane Pieplow, a Nevada Humanities Grant has been received and is funding the completion of the interior exhibits.

The Mobile Museum will tell the story of the history of the Newlands Reclamation Project.

Pictures and text addressing the past and present of the Newlands Reclamation Project in the Lahontan Valley are being mounted on the museum walls

The “future” portion of the exhibit will soon be developed and installed.

Tom Bartel has completed the display cabinets and installed several of the museum’s freestanding exhibits.

When completed, the Mobile Museum will visit various schools, museums, county fairs and other public events throughout northern Nevada
