Letter from the Director

For me the last few months have been very exciting.  I have just returned to work from maternity leave.  I added a little boy to my family in September.  I had to say goodbye to Helen Smart the receptionist here at LVEA.  Helen is taking more time for family and her personal life.  I also welcomed our new office intern Sarah Washburn.  Sarah is a local grown high school senior that will be working a few hours a week for LVEA.

The LVEA is moving forward in exciting new directions.  We are working with CEDA to investigate the possibility of a USDA certified Slaughter house in the Lahontan Valley.

The County Fair and Cantaloupe Festival was a great success.  The Mule, Horse and Wagon Show at the Fair was awesome.  The show was completely put on by over fifty volunteers. It showcased the local history of Mule and Horse drawn equipment.  Equipment that included numerous farming implements and wagons.  We had a great crowd and I again thank everyone that volunteered many hours.  Art Mallory and Martha Robert our announcers, Dee Gregory from KHWG helped with the music, Behimer, Kirch, Lane, Hesselgesser, Adams, Davis, Swanger, Gomes, Openshaw, Lewis, Uran, Dove, and Machado families, NAS Fallon Personnel, and many more.

LVEA is starting up a new working group to discuss the Wilderness Study areas in the local mountain ranges. If you are interested in participating please contact the office so we can get you involved in the future of our area. The Ag Preservation working group in finishing up the Summary Document for submittal to the Churchill County Planning Department.

Keep looking for the LVEA around town and please call me if you would like more information or would like to join a working group or just volunteer.

Sincerely,

Erica Behimer
